TikTok is giving users more control over their AI experience. The platform is testing a slider to limit the display of videos generated by artificial intelligence in the “For You” feed. A further step towards transparency and content personalization.
🤖 A Slider to Tame AI on TikTok
The pervasiveness of artificial intelligence in our news feeds is a hot topic. TikTok, the application favored by over 1.4 billion individuals, is reacting by offering a new feature focused on user control. The idea? To allow users to modulate the amount of AI-produced videos that appear in the personalized “For You” feed.
The principle is simple: a slider. Accessible via the settings, in the “Manage your feed” section, this slider offers three clear options:
- See fewer AI videos
- See as many AI videos as currently
- Almost no AI videos
A choice that puts the power in the hands of the user, allowing them to adapt their TikTok experience to their preferences.
🛡️ AI Badge and Invisible Watermarks: A Double Protection
This isn’t TikTok’s first initiative in terms of AI transparency. Previously, the application had already implemented a “Content generated from artificial intelligence” badge system. A system that has made it possible to identify more than 1.3 billion videos. But TikTok doesn’t stop there.
In parallel with the slider, TikTok is introducing “invisible watermarks.” The objective: to automatically identify videos produced by AI, even if they have been republished or modified. A technical measure that aims to combat disinformation and ensure content traceability.
🌍 Gradual Deployment and Limitations
The AI slider setting is currently in the testing phase in the United States. TikTok plans a gradual deployment on a global scale. A cautious but necessary approach to refine the system and ensure its effectiveness.
Note: It is crucial to note that this setting only applies to the “For You” feed. The “Following” tab and other sections of the application are not affected.
This restriction highlights a desire to target algorithmic content, the content that is likely to surprise us and expose us to videos that we would not necessarily have searched for.
🎯 Overall Strategy and TikTok’s Vision
This new feature is part of a broader TikTok strategy. A strategy focused on strengthening user control over their digital experience. The idea is simple: to offer everyone the opportunity to shape their own news feed.
TikTok thus wishes to allow its users to reduce their exposure to content whose origin is automatically generated. A way to favor human creations and combat AI saturation.
The stakes are high: maintaining a balance between the power of AI and the quality of the user experience. TikTok seems determined to take on this challenge.
